Ride to see a couple old friends

We rode to the Arlington National Cemetery today on the year anniversary to see a couple fallen brothers. It was supposed to rain but we set out anyways. The weather cleared up as soon as we arrived.
We walked to lot 60 and found our brothers. Placed a rock so they knew they are remembered.
Below is the memorial in Afghanistan for all the brothers.

We rode back on the back roads. The chop had to be push started because the relay crapped out. Deuce laughed every time I had to roll start it. Got down the road and the throttle cable came loose. Had to milk it up a hill to a safe pull off.
What's a ride on a chopper without a couple unplanned stops. A little triage from the downed biker kit and off we went.

Another Chopper Show in August for a great cause!!

Chopper Wars wounded Veteran benefit info

Josh Burnette

He is a dog handler and special forces weapons sergeant in the 7th special forces group. He was wounded in June 2012 in Afghanistan by an IED. He suffered traumatic amputation of both legs below the knee. He eventually lost one leg above the knee and one finger due to infection. He is 29 years old with one son and a strong girlfriend who's been there for him through the whole ordeal. He is currently at Walter Rees doing physical therapy and is scheduled for another surgery on 3/15/13. After the surgeries and therapy sessions are completed he'll be living in Florida. Aside from being an awesome guy that put it all on the line defending our country, he's a hotrod enthusiest as well. He owns the Chevy truck you see in this picture and is a member of the Road Devils Car Club.

All procedes from the Butcher Chop Chopper Wars will be donated to Josh to help him get situated once he gets back to the sunshine state. I hope everybody makes plans to come hang out, listen to some good music, check out some cool pre 65 cars and trucks, and support a man who has given so much to our country so that we can raise our families in a land of peace.

Oil Tank Repair and Powdercoating

Been chasing a slow oil leak for a little while now and finally found the source.  A small crack developed at the mounting point of the oil tank.  Removed the tank and welded up the crack.  Fixed a couple wires that needed attention and rerouted them.  Ran out of time today but I will clean up the weld and powder coat the oil tank.

Stripped the tank and got it ready for powder coat.
Test fit in the oven.
Coated and baked.
And back on the bike with a personal touch from my hometown.

The 85 Virago Bobber sold yesterday!!

Well I put the bike up on Craigslist to get a feel for what I could get out of it.  I was still tuning the carb and riding the crap out of it because it was a blast to ride.  Low, fast and just nasty looking.  I put 20 miles on it yesterday after I made a jet change and it ran great.  A guy showed up with cash and made an offer, so I had to let her go.  Made some money and still have another 82 Virago to put together.  So here is the farewell shot of the '85.

New Helmet Liner

Found a 70's Grant lid in the original box.  Picked it up and of course it was too small for my giant melon.  A trip to the fabric store and some stiching help for Mrs. Deuce and this is the result.

Repurposed items and other shop projects

Came across some very cool old tractor seats, gears and some metal wheels.  Had to make something out of them!

 The drunk chairs!
Too many Virago parts, so figured I could make a table out of one.

Here is the finished table

Smoked wire

Went for a short ride to calibrate this damn electronic speedo and thought the bike caught fire. Plumes of white smoke while I was riding. Got the bike stopped and found the brake light wire was melted.
Melted into the battery a little
Got it back to the shop. Now waiting on a new brake light switch.

The Death Machine Chop

The most recent addition to the shop....the tiny stool. Who needs a lift when you have a tiny stool to sit on.

The CB750 Survivor

One of the many overlooks on Skyline Drive

The Steal

Deuce picked this up for 4 G's from Rockabilly Shawn who repo'd it from a guy that didn't take care of it. Sold it to Phil the next day and the repairs began. The clutch bleeder screw hole was stripped out and the bike was in general disrepair. Took about a day to repair the clutch and go through the wiring, oil, plugs and weld a new tab on the back of the tank. Picked up a couple seat springs and some other odds and ends. A couple more days of tweaking everything and she runs beautifully.

Had to change the bars, get them low and get that punch people in the face feeling while riding.
