Deeboe's FLHT
Deuce was in the house and a guy knocked on the door. Asked if he worked on bikes. He has a FLHT that he hasn't ridden all winter and summer. He said it only runs on choke so Deuce took it in.
82 virago 750 cam tensioner
Here is a short editorial on installing a timing chain cam chain tensioner on a virago 750 should be the same for the 920 and 1000. Remove tensioner.
Drink one bottle beer, preferably PBR, and smash the lid with the largest hammer you have within reach.
Cut yourself a small flat "key" from said smashed lid that will fit between the grooves at the front of the tensioner. Don't worry about measuring it. if you cut wrong. Drink another beer and try again!
Apply pressure to the plunger and screw in (clock ways) throught the hole with a flat head.
While applying pressure slide the key in so that is locks between the side groves and the flathead screw head.
reinstall
remove the made "key" and the sprung self tensioner will self-adjust

Faces around the shop
Bible Dave stopped in to fiddle with his rear break. We tried for hours to bleed it but could never get pressure, believe it is the master cylinder. |
Pulled the Bikes out to do a little fall cleaning |
A while back I dropped the Buell in my driveway when my helmet which was on the tank wedged under the handle bars. It resulted in a broken shifter lever. I rigged some bolts to allow fo shifting. It worked so well that it took me 6 months to get around to swapping out a good pedal. Luckily my dad had an extra pedal so I had no excuse to not fix it. |
Taz stopped in on Sat night. Sunday morning he received his Baptism, so congrats to him! |
Biker Mike and Barfight Sarah showed up with his Rocker! |
Check out his helmet! Some guys have all the luck |
Put a new rear seat on the ural in prep for the upcoming camping trip so Jenny didn't have to ride on the luggage rack. |

Lagniappe camping
Loaded up for a trip out to Shanandoha to catch an end of season ride down Skyline Drive. |
The kids decided it was a good time to take a nap. |
This was a cool tank outside the VFW in Luray. |
This is why we work! |
Love can be found as you enter Culpepper |

Support your local bike shop.
Local bike shops are going away because of the availability of parts over the internet. I myself purchase parts over the internet as well but I usually get with a local shop to see if they can get it first. Most shops will meet or beat the price just to keep the business local. I always stop down and talk to Rob at K.N.R. Customs here in Fredericksburg, VA. He has always treated me extremely well and helped me out when I needed it. The Keihin carb that went on the 85 Virago was from there. It was a pull-off carb from a customer bike, Rob gave me a great deal and threw in a rebuild kit on the house. I have purchased numerous parts from him and I will continue to check there first when looking for parts. He also does service and custom builds!
So check out your local bike shop and show your support. Rob does a "Bike Day" the first Saturday of every month at the shop. The FB page and website is below.

Powder coated virago engine
I am digging the progress on this engine. The different layers of color with the powder really give the engine a sweat look. |
More Powder coating for the street fighter build
H
Dumped approx 50 nuts / bolts / washing in the tumbler for two hours |
Sandblasted the larger peices |
Slang some powder on the risers / battery box and intake |
20 minutes in the oven and we have faux chrome |
Pick through this mess to find all the hardware |
Configured the rack for coating the hardware |
For the most part it worked great. there was some foil that stuck to the bolts but was easily removed with a razor blade |
These big nuts look awsome |
Finished product. No Rust and will last forever |

The new 82 build
We have plenty of Virago parts lying around so I started to round them up to throw into another build.
I got a front end down from upstairs and the frame and swing arm were outside the shop.
Boardtracker
Though we do have some large and pricey bikes in the shop this is one of the funnest. It is a small 49cc 4 stroke boardtracker built on a beach cruiser frame with a 60's Aermacchi Harley Sprint tank. She only runs about 30MPH but it is plenty fast enough for me to race through the local neighborhood on my morning shootout to catch the train. Unfortunatly we had a catastrofic failure which resulting in a 3 mile push home. So up on the lift she went!! |
It appeared the problem was in this offset gearbox out drive |
Luckily it is only an overheated drive chain that has kinked itself and thrown off track. |
Here she will sit until I can find this chain. Hopefully it is a 25H. |
